Make 2024 The Year YOU Participate

by | 16 Jan 2023

No matter who you are or what your background, your input into research is valuable. We at MQ want to give you a boost to start exploring your volunteering journey which is why we’re asking you to Participate.

Participate is a platform that connects researchers who need volunteers to help them with their research, with the right people who can help, I.E. You! Studies range from simple online questionnaires to full in-person trials so you can find the right study to fit into your schedule.

Whoever you are, whatever your knowledge or experience of mental illness, your help is needed. Researchers are looking for volunteers from all backgrounds including people who have absolutely no experience of mental health difficulties. As strange as it might first sound, studies into mental health need people to take part who have the broadest possible range of experiences, including no experience at all!

By participating, you’ll be helping others and you could even be helping yourself. Volunteering can inspire, motivate and connect us. For some, participating in studies can be life changing.

“Life is still absolutely fantastic for me after the study… Every time I achieve something… it always makes me think of {MQ} and the amazing change you have made to my life. “  Anonymous participant

Some people might have questions about taking part in research studies. We want to promote trust within the research field hence why we provide access to our frequently asked questions about volunteering for research, to mean you are as fully informed as you can be.

“I found the experience really helpful, which amazed me. I feel more positive and happier... I would like to say a big thank you to the team and I hope others will be as satisfied as I.”  Anonymous participant

Another very real concern MQ and researchers need your help to address is that certain demographics have been inadvertently and mostly excluded in research up to now. For example, it was reported in 2021 that the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted Black and Ethnic Minority communities in the UK including impacting the mental health of those communities. And yet regrettably, the underrepresentation of BAME volunteers in UK clinical trials and other forms of medical research has continued.

Additionally back in 2019 a study found that while volunteering is generally seen as a good thing, many younger, disabled and BAME volunteers were less likely to have a positive experience.

Now, five years later, we want to help make volunteering a positive experience for everyone, starting with this first step.

If volunteering sounds like your kind of thing, or if you’ve considered it before but felt unsure, this is your time to get in touch. If you have any questions about volunteering as part of Participate then please do read up our frequently asked questions.

“I know that I am making a difference. If a tiny little contribution can help someone else that would be enough for me.” Anonymous participant

The only way all of us will benefit from research is if we are all represented. That can only happen with your input.

So this is it! A new start to a new year and a new chance for you to volunteer. If you’d like to contribute to research, now’s the time to act.  We’ve made it as quick and easy as possible to get involved. Simply apply via Participate online and MQ will be there every step of the way on your volunteering journey to support and guide you.

Make 2024 the year when you Participate in making future years mentally healthier for all.

Participate now.
