Amazin LeThi & Dr Jessica Schleider and Supporting LGBTQ+ Mental Health

by | 14 Jun 2022

Did you know that almost one in four LGBTQ+ people (23 per cent) have witnessed discriminatory or harmful remarks from healthcare staff?

In this episode, Rory and I spoke to athlete and LGBTQ+ advocate, Amazin LeThi and Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Stonybrook University, Dr Jessica Schleider.

Jessica revealed that the global average of psychotherapy sessions that a person will attend is only one. This is due to various issues such as financial challenges and availability. This problem encouraged her to find new interventions that would allow practitioners to help their clients in a single session.

We also spoke about the lack of LGBTQ+ representation in research. Amazin explained how being represented can improve a person's mental health and how diversity is integral in creating treatments that benefit everyone.
