Harnessing the power of data science

We want to answer the big questions in mental illness. To learn how different conditions start, how they develop, and why some people get better when others don’t.

One of the principal routes to achieve is through data science. This is a way of extracting and analysing information from public databanks including those managed by the NHS, UK research programmes and other health organisations.  And by including information from other areas such as social care and education, we can build a unique picture of what mental illness looks like for individuals.

Data science has the ability to make a huge difference in how we understand mental health, helping researchers piece together evidence about the treatments that work for which people and why.

Today we’re bringing together experts from the world of mental health to discuss this issue further, at the 3rd MQ Data Science Meeting. This will be a key opportunity to map forward a path for data science research, and how we can leverage its potential to transform mental health.

The event builds on previous meetings in this area, held by MQ and our partners over the course of 2015 and 2016.
