MQ Mental Health Research is happy to announce that Professor Rory O’Connor, Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Glasgow, has joined MQ’s Board of Trustees.

“I am delighted and honoured to join the Board of Trustees of MQ. I have been impressed by how much MQ has achieved in recent years, and I am excited to help to shape the future of mental health science at this critical time, as we continue to recover from COVID and build the evidence base of what works to protect and promote our mental health.”

Rory leads the Suicidal Behaviour Research at Glasgow, one of the international leading suicide/self-harm research groups. He has published extensively in the field of suicide and self-harm, specifically concerning the psychological processes which precipitate suicidal behaviour and self-harm.

He is also co-author/editor of several books and author of When It is Darkest. Why People Die by Suicide and What We Can Do To Prevent It (2021). He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Archives of Suicide Research and Associate Editor of Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior.

Rory is also an advisor to various national and international organisations, including national governments on suicide and self-harm.

Since May, Rory has co-hosted the MQ Open Mind podcast, a show that blends lived experience with scientific research to help understand mental health conditions.
