The effects of antidepressants on learning and emotional processing

We are looking for participants with PERSISTENT ANXIETY AND/OR LOW MOOD to take part in our research study on the effects of antidepressant SSRIs on learning and emotional processing. It is hoped that this research will contribute to an improved understanding of depression and anxiety.

Study overview: a 14 or 21 day treatment of the antidepressant, escitalopram, or placebo, with behavioural and neuroimaging (fMRI) testing prior to and after the treatment. Some tasks will involve non-harmful electrical shocks.

We are looking for:

participants who must:

  • Have persistent anxiety and/or low mood
  • Not be currently receiving medical treatment
  • Be MRI compatible

Expenses:

You will receive £50 payment following completion of the study.
