What Does MQ Do?

MQ Mental Health Research is mental health research charity with the sole focus on raising money to fund mental health research, with the intention of improving the understanding and treatment of mental illness, and to one day prevent mental illness from occurring in the first place. There is more to be learned about mental illness and there is still stigma attached to it. At MQ, we strive to tackle this, and you can help through volunteering.

Lived Experience Research Network (LERN)

Our LERN network is focused on engaging more people with lived experience in mental health research. This enables our PPIE to flourish as we recognise that mental health research requires an inclusive approach. Volunteer by joining our Lived Experience Reserch Network (LERN). Whether you have lots of time to spare or only a little, and whatever your experience with mental health is, we encourage you to participate in opportunities such as surveys, questionnaires, advisory group membership or virtual focus groups. The Benefits of Volunteering For Mental Health Research

1. Empowerment

Volunteering for research can help empower you and provide a great sense of purpose. Not only are you helping to improve mental health for the future, you are improving your own wellbeing and mental health by taking part.

2. Reframe Lived Experience

If you have dealt with mental health struggles, volunteering for research can be a way to create something positive from painful memories by helping to improve treatment and services for others.

3. Skill Development

MQ supports PPIE-P, whch is the practice of working alongside volunteers rather than working on them. This provides volunteers with opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence, and make a real difference.
