Introducing the first ever virtual Mental Health Science Summit

For the last seven years, MQ has hosted the Mental Health Science Summit. One of the largest inter-disciplinary scientific meetings dedicated to mental health science.

The 2021 summit will, for the first time ever, be held virtually.

On the 12th and 13th of May, researchers, scientists and people with lived experience from around the world will come together online to present their findings, discuss their work and share their perspectives on the future of mental health research.

Because this event is virtual, and is open to all, anyone will be able to hear about ground-breaking research, network with professionals from a range of disciplines and backgrounds and connect virtually with other attendees.

The virtual summit, in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, provides a space to showcase ideas, have important conversations and seed collaborations between people of diverse perspectives.

This years themes include:

  • Children and young peoples mental health
  • Mental health inequalities
  • And mental health in the COVID era

You can see the timetable for the event here.

Contributors will include Ethel Mpungu from the Makerere University in Uganda (And one of the BBC’s most 100 influential women in the world), Emily Holmes from Uppsala University in Sweden, Karl Deisseroth from Stanford University in the USA and Matthew Hotopf from Kings College London.

Also appearing at the event will be MQ Ambassador James Downs who will be joining the conversation about what we have learnt from COVID-19 and it’s impact on our mental health.

Also joining is Dr Stephani Hatch who will be chairing the panel on inequalities within mental health and research.

This event is not just for scientists, anyone with an interest in hearing about and discussing the very latest in mental health research is welcome. Healthcare workers, teachers, people with lived experience and researchers at any stage of their career.

At MQ, we believe that the more diverse the people having the discussion, the better the outcomes will be. So for that reason we have a range of low-cost ticket options available depending on budget:

  • General tickets: £149 (for most people)
  • Discounted ticket: £99 (for NHS and charity/ non-profit staff)
  • Concessions: £49 (for early career researchers, LMIC delegates, unwaged/ insecurely waged)
  • Bursaries: £0 (there are a limited number of bursaries available for delegates for whom the cost is prohibitive)

Tickets are available to purchase here. If you wish to apply for a bursary please contact [email protected]
